Remember almost 2 months ago? When director Francis Lawrence was throwing around the idea for an I AM LEGEND prequel? Well it looks like his words have become a reality with Variety confirming that an I AM LEGEND prequel is in the works.
Hold your judgement for a second… both Lawrence and star Will Smith are set to return for Warner Bros., though we won’t be seeing Alice Braga (below) return. The flick will be produced by Weed Road’s Akiva Goldsman and Overbrook Entertainement’s James Lassiter. The idea for the prequel comes from all of the above: Smith, Lawrence, Goldsman, and Lassiter. D.B. Weiss has been pegged to write the script based on their ideas.
Apparently the prequel will center on the final days of humanity in New York before a man-made virus caused a plague that left Smith’s character the lone survivor among a mutated mob in the city.
So what do you think? Yay or nay? Now I’m not going to get into the horrible CGI monsters from the first film… I think that’s been said enough times. Aside from that though, I didn’t see many flaws at all in the first film. Smith’s acting was spot on and the visual effects of a vacant New York City were pretty incredible. Honestly though, I’ve got no idea what to expect with this prequel… one thing’s for certain though, we’ll be keeping you updated once we hear anything else.
