Lex Luthor officially announced to appear in Justice League

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

BATMAN V SUPERMAN, while it has its ardent fans, is not very well-regarded. And one of the chief reasons given was Jesse Eisenberg's erratic, finicky, hipster portrayal of Lex Luthor. Now, don't get me wrong, his Lex Luthor sucked. But I don't think it was Eisenberg's fault. As someone who wasn't a comic fan, he took what the script gave him (which wasn't much) and tried to give it life, and as a supposed comic book fan, Zack Snyder should've reigned him in (which is why I say "supposed". I mean, this is the same guy who gave Lex Luthor long, luxurious hair.). Watching the film there are most definitely moments of brilliance and true menace in Eisenberg's performance, that's unfortunately drowned out by the constant twitching and unnecessary quirks.

Anyway, JUSTICE LEAGUE is coming out in a year to hopefully wash the bad taste of BATMAN V SUPERMAN out of our collective mouths. And Warner Bros. has just released its full cast list for the film. Let's have a look:

Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon.

As you can see, Jesse's Lex is listed there. I'm personally excited to see a bald Lex (and maybe after the backlash of his portrayal, Jesse will give a more subdued, calculating performance that's closer to the comics. It could even be handwaved away by the fact of his initial failure and imprisonment at the end of BvS hardened him.) Other than that, everyone else has already been announced previously as appearing in the film (though curiously absent from the list are Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf, Amber Heard as Mera, and Kiersey Clemons as Iris West.)

Anyway, as I said above, I like Eisenberg, and still feel he could be redeemed. Hell, I feel the whole DCEU can be redeemed, if they just get their shit together. And that's a big f*cking if.

Meanwhile, JUSTICE LEAGUE will find justice in theaters November 17, 2017
