LG & the Train!

Shit I still remember when LIONSGATE was a small Distribution company
sending me VHS screeners or/and Check Disks for review ( I actually caught SAW
before its release/success on VHS that way, I still have the damn tape…lol).
Since then, the little cie that could has become a quasi mini-studio with all
the pros and cons that comes with that jive.

But LGs evolution has hit an odd snag recently. With the exit of its HORROR
FRIENDLY head of acquisitions PETER BLOCK and the penetration of its new top dog
PETER DRAKE, it seems that LG and horror haven’t been going hand in severed hand
these days. Case in point; the MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN
“release or not to release” / “straight to DVD or straight to
bargain theatres” fiasco that’ still ongoing as we speak. Now personally, I’ve tuned this ordeal out. I have my own damn problems to spend energy on. But if this whole spiel interests
ya, here are a couple of links that might tickle your fancy:

Release me…ummm…please?

IMDb MESSAGE BOARD THEORY: Joe
Drake used to work at Focus features and produced “The Strangers” When
Joe Drake got the job as the head of Lions Gate, he pushed back “Midnight
Meat Train” from it’s release, which was a conflict of personal interests
for him, since he did not want another horror film to go up against a film that
he helped produce. – DO

CLIVE BARKER SAYS ON HIS SITE:
I am very excited about this possibility and I would passionately encourage
everybody who cares about my work to use this chance to change the minds
of the folks at Lionsgate. “This is exciting! I really think, this late in
the day, that grassroots support for our movie could significantly improve our
chances of reaching a much bigger audience theatrically. The picture is worth
the effort, I believe.” – DO

Finally, fellow genre site BLOODY DISGUSTING started its own campaign to try
to help the film out and you can get all the juice on that HERE.
