A new poster for EDGAR ALLEN POE’S LIGEIA hit the ol’ internet today, promising a movie filled with surrealistic imagery and possible sacrifices of super hot ladies in short red dresses.
Directed by Michael Staininger, LIGEIA stars Wes Bentley, Kaitlin Doubleday, Sofya Skya (below), and the great Eric Roberts, and it goes a little something like this: Successful writer and scholar Jonathan Merrick falls under the spell of the irresistible, bewitchingly beautiful Ligeia. She’s fighting a fatal illness and she will stop at nothing to defeat death, her one true enemy. She steals other people’s souls and on her quest to immortality she tricks Jonathan into supporting her work, breaking him apart from his fiancé Rowena and pulling him into her dark, mysterious world. They settle down in an old manor by the Black Sea where Ligeia’s everlasting presence slowly drives Jonathan to madness…
Wow, now that sounds effin’ crazy! I’m unfamiliar with the original story by Poe, but I can dig the overall premise, and can definitely smell the Poe vibes going on here. This is actually the first time that I’ve heard of this flick, which is a shame because I really dig Bentley, he just seems like a cool guy, and what can I saw… he did a decent job as the killer in P2.
