Lightning McQueen pushes himself to the limit in new Cars 3 trailer

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

A new trailer for Pixar's upcoming sequel CARS 3 has just raced onto the net ahead of the animation's release next weekend. This installment to the franchise sees Lightning McQueen setting out to prove to a new generation of racers that he's still the best race car in the world. It's a bit of an odd premise if you ask me. The thought of McQueen questioning his relevance in the world of fast-paced racing points at the concept of McQueen (in one way or another) exploring his mortality in a world where newer and presumably faster cars are being manufactured every day. You'd think that with all the lessons he's learned over the years that he'd be okay with becoming the next Doc Hudson, but then again, McQueen has never been able to humble himself without an impactful life lesson to set his tires back upon the pavement.

Though the premise of the film may appear grim, I'm certain that there are plenty of laughs to be had the sequel prepares to introduce its largest and most ecelctic cast ever, of which includes actors Owen Wilson, Cristela Alonzo, Chris Cooper, Nathan Fillion, Larry the Cable Guy, Armie Hammer, Ray Magliozzi, Tony Shalhoub, Bonnie Hunt, Lea DeLaria, Kerry Washington, Bob Costas, Margo Martindale, Darrell Waltrip, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Bob Peterson, Guido Quaroni, the late Tom Magliozzi, John Ratzenberger, Kyle Petty, Lewis Hamilton, Lloyd Sherr, Robert Glenn “Junior” Johnson, Ray Everhnam, Cheech Marin, Howard Augustine “Humpy” Wheeler Jr., Katherine Helmond, Paul Dooley, Jenifer Lewis, Shannon Spake, Maddy McGraw, Michael Wallis, Mike Joy, Jeff Gordon, Daniel Suárez, Ryan Blaney, Bubba Wallace, Chase Elliott, Richard Petty, and Andra Day.

Yup, that's a lot of talent for CARS third lap around the big screen track. CAR 3 opens June 16, 2017.
