Do you know David Leslie Johnson? Well you should! He’s the guy who wrote ORPHAN, which is currently spooking out audiences in theaters. Now I was able to check this one out and it’s definitely something different… A bit too much like THE GOOD SON but it packed a punch in the end!
Well it seems Johnson’s success isn’t over yet. He’s got the upcoming remake of LAKE MUNGO coming that he penned along with the bugs-go-bad flick THE COLONY that I told you about last month. But that’s not all! According to Variety Johnson has just been hired by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way to pen an updated version of LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD!
What is Johnson’s take going to have? A gothic twist! Unfortunately LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD is not being developed as a starring opportunity for DiCaprio. Actually there’s no word on any other crew aside from Johnson penning the thing. Now which way will Johnson take this one? Variety reminds us that the classic tale is about a wolf who disguises himself to fool a girl delivering food to her sick grandmother in the forest. From there the story has gone a couple different ways… the more common version has Little Red Riding Hood outsmarting the Big Bad Wolf in one way or another while the older versions, dating back to the Middle Ages, have an unhappy ending where the Wolf is the victor once he eats Little Red.
Considering this take will be a lot more gothic than normal and it’s coming from David Leslie Johnson I can see anything happening… We’ll be keeping an eye on this one and will bring you any updates as soon as we hear them.
