Logan’s Run remake being prepped for and shot in 3D?

Well, what movie isn’t these days?

At least, if not conceived to be shot in three-dimensions, the what large budgeted spectacle hasn’t been converted as such in post-production? A sad statement, really. And not only do we have another head scratching remake on the horizon, it’s also falling victim to the current fad. Remember last week when we informed you that Ridley Scott acolyte Carl Erik Rinsch had been tapped to direct a remake of 70s sci-fi favorite LOGAN’S RUN? Well, expect a 3D remake!

Truth. According to MTV, who recently ran down power producer Joel Silver (Warner Bros./Dark Castle), the project is very consciously being developed as a 3D movie, to be shot with 3D cameras. Here’s the direct quote from Silver:

“I’d like to make ‘Logan’s Run’ [in 3-D]. It’s a movie I’ve always been intrigued with, excited by. We’re writing a script now and that should be a big 3-D movie and it should be devised and shot in 3-D. I think if we can pull it together, then it would be.”

Okay then. As fervently opposed as I am to the current 3D trend in Hollywood, I realize certain projects may actually benefit more from the format than others. Here’s an example. Not only is LOGAN’S RUN rife with 3D potential, the fact it’s being planned as such in its new incarnation is quite assuring. So, while I’m not huge on the format right now, I think it’ll actually behoove this particular project. What says you?

Rinsch is currently tethered to direct remakes of 47 RONIN and CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON. Between those and LOGAN’S RUN, which do you want him to direct first?

Joel Silver’s last film to hit theaters (not including the upcoming SPLICE) was THE LOSERS, starring Zoe Sladana!
