Lord of Misrule: Tuppence Middleton, William Brent Bell horror project now filming

More than a year and a half after it was first announced, the folk horror project Lord of Misrule is now in production. Deadline reports that filming is taking place in Hertfordshire, UK. William Brent Bell, who recently wrapped up his work on the Orphan prequel Orphan: First Kill, is directing the film from a screenplay by Tom de Ville (The Quiet Ones). Starring Tuppence Middleton (Mank), Lord of Misrule follows

Rebecca Holland, who has recently taken over the parish church. When her young daughter goes missing at a winter festival, villagers and local police join in the desperate search. However, the closer they edge towards finding the girl, the more secrets emerge from the town’s dark past; soon Rebecca must decide just how much she is willing to sacrifice to rescue her daughter from the grip of evil.

Seasonal festivals are always trouble in horror stories.

Middleton is joined in the cast by Ralph Ineson (The Witch) and Matt Stokoe (Outlaw King).

Lord of Misrule is coming to us from REP Productions and Riverstone Pictures, as well as Bigscope Films and The Machine Room. The producers are Deepak Nayar and Nik Bower of Riverstone, Jason Newmark and Laurie Cooke of Bigscope, Alison Brister of REP Productions, Bell (producing through The Machine Room), and James Tomlinson. REP Productions is funding the project alongside BCP Asset Management.

Bell had this to say about his latest film:

It is so rare to find such well-developed, culturally relevant, and beautifully dark material as Lord Of Misrule. Tom de Ville’s wicked script has given us the foundation to build the kind of talented cast and crew who will bring to life a film that will haunt audiences for years to come.”

We’re still waiting to hear when Orphan: First Kill is going to be released. Bell’s previous genre films include Stay Alive, The Devil Inside, Wer, The Boy, Brahms: The Boy II, and Separation.
