Last week Eric told you all how The Dowdle Brothers would be assisting M. Night Shyamalan in his producing project, THE NIGHT CHRONICLES. Well today Variety have word on exactly what the Dowdles will be bringing us. But before I get into that, let me update you all on exactly what NIGHT CHRONICLES is in case you’re unaware.
Shyamalan and Media Rights Capital came up with an interesting deal – a deal that will bring us three genre films in the next three years, all from the mind of M. Night with M. Night (right) producing and overseeing nearly everything. Mind you, Shyamalan will not be directing these films, but he will be coming up with the stories. All three films will be under the NIGHT CHRONICLES banner.
So now that your all up to date on M. Night’s CHRONICLES, let me drop word on what the Dowdle’s will be working on. Apparently the title of the Dowdle’s feature will be DEVIL. It’ll be penned by 30 DAYS OF NIGHT’s Brian Nelson while the Dowdle’s direct and producer, along with Shyamalan and Sam Mercer also producing. No plot details were let loose, but a flick called DEVIL from the mind of M. Night Shyamalan? I’m definately intrigued.
Sure, people… a lot of people say M. Night has lost his touch, especially with his last effort THE HAPPENING being subject to some harsh reviews, but I still have faith in the guy. Personally I’ve found most of his films alright, and I dug THE HAPPENING so I seem to be of the minority. For all of you that believe M. Night has lost it, is it comforting to know he won’t be directing these flicks and only producing? Not sure how much of a difference it’ll make but it’ll be interesting to find out.
DEVIL is descrbied as a ‘supernatural thriller.’ The Dowdle’s former genre credits include QUARANTINE and THE POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES, so these guys seem to be scoring some solid work recently. Another thing to note is that all three NIGHT CHRONICLES movies will be aiming at a PG-13 rating… guess Shyamalan got bullied by that R rating. I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot more on M. Night’s NIGHT CHRONICLES, so we’ll keep you updated.
