This sounds like a belated April Fools joke, but all indications are it’s real.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, M. Night Shyamalan has just signed on to direct a sci-fi adventure film set to star Will and Jaden Smith. (Jaden, in case you didn’t know, is the brat from the new KARATE KID movie.) Shyamalan co-wrote the screenplay with Gary Whitta (THE BOOK OF ELI).
The film is still untitled, but the story takes place 1,000 years into the future where a young boy has to navigate an abandoned and sometimes scary Earth to save himself and his estranged father after their ship crashes.
Shyamalan said, “The chance to make a scary, science-fiction film starring Jaden and Will is my dream project.”
Really, M. Night? This is your dream project? No wonder so many things have gone wrong…
No time table has been set up yet for this project, but I really can’t wait to hear more. Could it top THE LAST AIRBENDER in the stinky cheese department?

Jada Pinkett Smith is producing, of course…
