Fantastic Fest 2013 has just announced its Opening Night film: the World Premiere of Robert Rodriguez’s MACHETE KILLS on September 19, 2013.

Makes a ton of sense, considering director Robert Rodriguez calls Austin, Texas his home.

“Every year we compile our dream targets for opening night film; MACHETE KILLS was at the top of that list,” said Fantastic Fest Co-founder & Creative Director Tim League. “We are going to pull out all the stops to ensure Robert’s world premiere red carpet experience is literally blood red.”

In MACHETE KILLS:

Danny Trejo returns as ex-Federale agent Machete, who is recruited by the President of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man – he must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war and anarchy across the planet.

The talented and eclectic cast includes: Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Carlos Estevez, Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Demian Bichir, Alexa Vega, Vanessa Hudgens, Cuba Gooding, Jr., William Sadler, Marko Zaror and Mel Gibson.

MACHETE KILLS releases in U.S. theaters on October 4, 2013.
