Yep, that’s lovely Charlize Theron on the right, rocking a shaved head in Namibia for her role opposite Tom Hardy in MAD MAX: FURY ROAD. Obviously the image is a bit blurry, but you get the idea. Nothing to be concerned about, she’ll still be hot and you know it.
Now on to the real news: You’d think in this day and age, if a big movie wants to be released in 3D, it would be smart enough to shoot that way. Aren’t we all wise to the fact that post-converting your picture is not the way to go?
Tell that to the producers of FURY ROAD. George Miller’s film, which is getting underway in Africa as we speak, was originally set to be shot using state-of-the-art 3D cameras, but now that plan has been scrapped. The reasoning appears to be that an untried system would not be able to “withstand the tough desert conditions and extensive stunt work the film requires.”
Unfortunate, to be sure; I suppose we just have to hold out hope that the post-conversion process has improved significantly when MAD MAX 4 heads to the editing room.
For the tech geeks out there, here’s what cinematographer John Seale (THE ENGLISH PATIENT) is shooting the movie with:
• 4 ARRI ALEXA Plus cameras (for standard sound shooting)
• 3 ARRI ALEXA M cameras (for the interior of trucks)
• 6 Canon 5D cameras (for stunt situations)
• 7 Olympus P5 cameras (as pure “crash” cameras)
