Do you guys remember Lars von Trier’s end of the world flick MELANCHOLIA? Of course you do. It’s his some-what highly anticipated follow-up to the controversial ANTI-CHRIST. Who in their right mind wouldn’t want to see what a dude like that has planned next?

Well let’s start the next film with the destruction of Earth. Of course! That’s what von Trier has said his film begins with. So let’s roll with it! It seems there’s at least some out there looking forward to MELANCHOLIA because it’s just been announced over at Variety that Magnolia have gone and snatched this one up at the European Film Market.

The seven-figure deal scores Magnolia Pictures the right to distribute the film here in the US sometime after it’s done filming, which is expected to wrap up later this Spring. Now that’s great news and all but let’s get a little refresher on what this one’s about:

The film is about two sisters. One of them is melancholic, the other quite normal. The two sisters react completely differently when the end of the earth approaches.

The melancholy sister is calm as a rock because, in her darkened mind, she has always felt that things go as expected – to hell!

Oh yeah… MELANCHOLIA stars Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg (below), Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, Alexander Skarsgard, Stellan Skarsgard and Udo Kier. As always be sure to keep it here as we await more news regarding Lars von Trier’s MELANCHOLIA!
