Mahershala Ali is set to join Mark Ruffalo for the second season of HBO’s critically acclaimed crime thriller, Task. You can’t expect him to wait around for Blade forever.

Task Season 2

The second season will see Ruffalo returning as FBI Agent Tom Brandis, who “takes the helm of a new task force, but the deeper the operation runs, the harder it is to tell who’s the target.

Ali will play Eddie Barnes, a “seasoned and well-respected DEA agent in Philadelphia whose team comes into conflict with Tom’s unit.

Series creator Brad Ingelsby is back as executive producer, writer, and showrunner. Although the first season was intended to be a limited series, Deadline hears that, once production wrapped, Ingelsby and Ruffalo felt there was room for more and began developing a second season. When the show premiered to rave reviews and great numbers, HBO was quick to officially renew the series.

What Did We Think?

Our own Alex Maidy thought Task was one of the best series of the year. “If Mare of Easttown and Heat were combined, the result would be Task,” he wrote. “There are hints of Sons of Anarchy and a little bit of True Detective mixed in, but with an everyman quality that Brad Ingelsby has mastered. This series has so much to appreciate, but it starts with the perfectly cast ensemble led by Mark Ruffalo and Tom Pelphrey, giving performances that will rank amongst the best of their careers. Task is a crime series as much as a character drama that will have you invested from the opening minutes through the gutpunch of a finale.” You can check out the rest of his review right here.

What About Blade?

Mahershala Ali was announced as the new Blade all the way back at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. Since then, the most we’ve gotten is Ali’s vocal cameo at the end of Eternals. The Blade reboot has gone through multiple directors and writers, but Marvel just can’t seem to get it off the ground. The latest rumour is that the studio has scrapped the movie altogether and will instead introduce Blade in a Midnight Sons movie.
