I've never come across a single person who has told me that making movies is easy, though I would imagine that dealing with dead bodies, pre-madonnas, and itchy trigger-fingered thugs is a whole other kettle of fish. Do you remember Barry Sonnenfeld's 1995 comedy crime thriller GET SHORTY? It starred Gene Hackman, Rene Russo, Danny DeVito and John Travolta in a film centered around a mobster who travels to Hollywood to collect a debt and discovers that the movie business is much the same as his current job. Sound familiar? Okay cool. That will make this next part even easier for you to get excited about.
As it would happen, Epix is creating a TV series based on the Elmore Leonard book on which both the aforementioned film and the upcoming show are based. Set to star in the new series is Ray Romano as Rick Moreweather, the down-and-out low-budget moviemaker who becomes partners with Miles Daly (Chris O' Dawd), a crime ring strong-arm turned movie producer. Sean Bridges, Carolyn Dodd, Isaac Keys, Goya Robles and Lucy Walters will also appear as a part of the cast.

Not too shabby, eh? I don't remember a whole lot from the orginal film, but good word of mouth could get me to tune into this one. GET SHORTY is set to debut on Sunday, August 13 at 10 PM. The 10-episode hourlong dark comedy from MGM TV will serve as a more true-to-form adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s 1990 bestselling thriller comedy novel and will feature more violence than Sonnenfeld's 1995 film.
