It doesn’t seem like the steady stream of shark thrillers we’ve been seeing released over the last several years is going to be sputtering out any time soon. Deadline reports that the latest shark thriller to hit the market, one called Maneater, has just landed distribution deals in multiple territories. Saban Films will be releasing Maneater in North America, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia, and South Africa. The film is now heading toward an August release.
Other distributors include “Challan Films (Korea), Superfine Films (India), YouPlanet (Spain), ILY Films (France), Monolith (Poland), Suraya Filem (SE Asia), Blitz Film Group (Ex-Yugo), and Selim Ramia and Co. (Middle East).”
Justin Lee (Apache Junction) wrote and directed Maneater, which stars Shane West (Gotham), Nicky Whelan (From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series), and country music star Trace Adkins (The Lincoln Lawyer). The film follows
a group of friends on vacation in a seeming island paradise who are stalked by an unrelenting great white after an accident leaves them stranded and left for dead.
That sounds very familiar, but hopefully Maneater will be one of the better shark thrillers to come out this year.
The film was produced by Daemon Hillin of Hillin Entertainment. Adkins served as executive producer alongside Joseph Lanius, Simon Williams, Landon Gorman of BGG Capital, and Ellen Wander and Jordan Dykstra of Film Bridge International. Hillin provided the following statement:
We are really excited to be sharing Maneater with audiences worldwide. We shot the film on location as practically as possible and wanted to provide an authentic, thrilling experience in the shark genre.”
