Despite receiving praise from the likes of Stephen King, the French horror series Marianne was cancelled by Netflix after just one season – but it looks like the show's creator, Samuel Bodin, has found a good way to move on from it. Bodin has signed on to direct the horror thriller COBWEB for Lionsgate.
Scripted by Chris Thomas Devlin, COBWEB is about
a boy whose parents have always told him the voices he hears in the walls of his house are just his imagination. But when he discovers the sounds are actually real, he goes on an unnerving quest to discover the truth.
The film is being produced by Point Grey's Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver, along with Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee and Jon Berg. Vertigo's Andrew Childs serves as executive producer with Josh Fagen, who is overseeing for Point Grey. Jim Miller and Meredith Wieck are overseeing the project for Lionsgate.
We first heard about COBWEB nearly two years ago, at which time Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns said this film will be how the studio takes back "ownership" of the horror genre. Seth Rogen is an unexpected producer for something like that, but Lionsgate has also teamed up with Chris Rock on SPIRAL: FROM THE BOOK OF SAW and Danny McBride has co-written a trilogy of HALLOWEEN sequels, so mixing comedians and horror is very popular these days.
