Marvel officially announces production on Doctor Strange; confirms cast

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

You may have noticed the recent (Cumber)batch of on-set pictures featuring the mighty Benedict sporting some wicked facial hair. This may come as a shock to some of you, but Marvel Studios has announced that DOCTOR STRANGE has gone into production! How about that?!?

The film, being directed by Scott Derrickson (SINISTER, THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE), will follow neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions. The flick stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg, Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton. Shooting has already begun in Kathmandu, Nepal, with stops to be made in Hong Kong, New York and London.

Given Marvel’s success with their “core heroes”, they’re now branching out to some of the lesser known characters of the MCU, which will undoubtedly yield more unique story-lines. Given that Cumberbatch could make the phone book sound compelling, I’m sure he’s going to deliver a hell of a character with Stephen Strange.

DOCTOR STRANGE is scheduled to hit theaters on November 4, 2016.
