Yesterday we learned that Robert Pattinson is expected to take on the mantle of the Dark Knight for Matt Reeves' THE BATMAN, and now we have even more Batman-related tidbits to keep rumour-mill going for another day. THR's Heat Vision newsletter dived into the Pattinson news, but cautioned that it's still an ongoing process which will involve screen-tests, readings, costume-tests, and more. As Batman is one of their most important brands, Warner Bros. is being extremely cautious as they move forward.
The newsletter also notes that Matt Reeves is still tweaking the script, which is rumoured to include at least two villains. It's said that the Penguin will be one of them, something which has been rumoured for close to a year, but they're also hearing of "another purrfect character" putting in an appearance as well. Although she's not specifically mentioned, we're obviously talking about Catwoman here. One of THR's sources have also told them that the script includes around half-a-dozen villains, which is likely something you should break out your grain of salt for. One thing that's certain however is that Reeves' take on the Dark Knight will finally do justice to the character's description as the World's Greatest Detective.
It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.
THE BATMAN will hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
