Matthew McConaughey has been on a hell of a kick lately and is showing no signs of slowing down. While he has Gus Van Sant's THE SEA OF TREES due later this year, he's hard at work now filming the historical action picture, THE FREE STATE OF JONES. The story follows that of a defiant southern farmer who started an uprising that led Jones County, Mississippi to secede from the Confederacy, creating the titular Free State of Jones. We got our first look last month of McConaughey in action, but now a few more pictures have arrived to whet your appetite.

Director Gary Ross (THE HUNGER GAMES, SEABISCUIT) hasn't shown much in the past that necessarily qualifies him for this material, but I'm pretty sure Matthew McConaughey could sit in front of a camera for two hours reading a phone book and the movie would still be interesting. Either way, it's great to see McConaughey staying active and working with some conceptually interesting stories.

THE FREE STATE OF JONES will be released on March 11, 2016.
