Matthew Vaughn said this back in August about big-budget superheroes, “It’s been mined to death and in some cases the quality control is not what it’s supposed to be. People are just going to get bored of it.” While this next project may not involve “big-budget” superheroes, he wants it to involve big-budget actors and a big-budget studio is already all over it.

Vaughn wants to do an adaptation of The Golden Age which is a yet to be released comic written by Jonathan Ross. Ross who once hosted the BBC chat show, Friday Night also happens to be a huge comic buff. He wrote the vampires versus gangsters comic called Turf which is also looking to be made into a film. Golden Age deals with a retirement home where superheroes end up. These retired superheroes aim to help their grandchildren with their middle-aged parents screw up the world.

With the success of RED and THE EXPENDABLES, Vaughn has already started a wish list of actors that he wants for the project. His ideal cast involves people like Clint Eastwood, Jack Nicholson, and Warren Beatty. He said this about his choices, “You have these great star names and they’re mainly playing supporting roles now. I want to give them the lead again and let them have some fun.” So SPACE COWBOYS wasn’t fun?

It is not certain whether Jane Goldman who is Vaughn’s partner and Ross’ wife will write on the script for this one. It’s also unknown if Vaughn will direct, he may only produce on this one. Vaughn did not indicate which studio was interested in the project.

Eastwood, Nicholson, and Beatty? That sounds like a damn dream. If they actually signed up I’d go see it. Can we add Donald Sutherland and Tommy Lee Jones? Can Jeremy Irons be the villain? Just so many ideas pop into my head…
