Forget what you’ve heard about BARBARELLA – Robert Rodriguez and girlfriend Rose McGowan are instead teaming up for a remake of RED SONJA. USA Today reports that Rodriguez will produce a remake of the 1985 film with McGowan in the starring role. Says McGowan of the casting, “When they first came to me with it, I thought it was funny…I do have a body made for sitting on a veranda with mint juleps and a parasol. I don’t know why I always have to save the planet.” Rodiguez doesn’t quite agree and thinks she’s a perfect fit for Sonja. “Rose is a pistol. She’s whip-smart, has attitude to burn, is sexy, extremely strong, yet has a vulnerable side that would surprise her closest friends. That description also fits Red Sonja.” McGowan will dye her hair red for the role and begin an rigorous training regimen to get ready for the October start date. While Rodriguez will only be producing the film, his longtime associate Douglas Aarniokoski (who served as First AD on SPY KIDS, THE FACULTY and FROM DUSK TILL DAWN) will direct.
