I guess it only makes sense that Paul Schrader’s version of EXORCIST: THE BEGININNING should continue it’s karmic hell. Neither the movie nor the guy have managed to catch a break (outside of people really liking it of course)!
So it’s been known for awhile now that Warner Bros. was planning some kind of limited release after the new-old version, or is it the old-new version, got very positive reviews coming out of its screening at the Brussels International Festival of Fantastic Film. And The Bloody News reports that the date of that limited release will be Friday, May 20th.
Hmmm, it seems like there’s some other flick coming out that day. Something that I saw on the news people are already lining up at the wrong theater to see…oh yeah, REVENGE OF THE F*CKING SITH! Only the most anticipated new movie of the year.
I mean, when you open against a blockbuster you want it to be counter-programming, which this is definitely NOT! Don’t get me wrong. I’m psyched it’s being released in theaters, but this seems like a move calculated to kill its chances.
About par for the course at this point I’m afraid. Sorry Mr. Schrader. Hopefully someone will recognize the unfortunate timing and make a move to change it!
