In what one can only assume is an attempt to break out from the being typecast as the awkwardly funny guy he’s portrayed most of his career, Michael Cera (SUPERBAD, JUNO, “ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT”) has signed on to star in a dark independent thriller titled MAGIC, MAGIC.
The pic revolves around a girl vacationing with her friends in a remote area of Chile who slowly starts losing her mental faculties. She tries to get her friends’ attention, but they ignore her until it’s too late.
It’s odd that the plot centers on a girl when Cera is toplining the project. Production is on hold until that female lead role to be filled. The film is written and directed by Spanish filmmaker Sebastian Silva. Mike White (“FREAKS AND GEEKS”) and Christine Vachom (ONE HOUR PHOTO) are producing.
