Michael K. Williams (as well as a few others) was added to the cast of Paul Feig's GHOSTBUSTERS reboot yesterday, and Variety is reporting that the Boardwalk Empire and The Wire actor is also in negotiations for a co-starring role in Justin Kurzel's ASSASSIN'S CREED. There's no details on his role, but sources tell the site "his character has a major stake in the franchise."

If Williams does sign on for ASSASSIN'S CREED, he will be joining Kurzel's MACBETH stars Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, and BEFORE MIDNIGHT actress Ariane Labed. Filming is underway for GHOSTBUSTERS, so Williams will shoot for the reboot first before moving on to the video game adaptation, which is expected to start production this fall. Kurzel will direct the film from a script by his MACBETH screenwriter Michael Lesslie, and EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS scribes Bill Collage and Adam Cooper.

With all the delays the project has had, I'm a little surprised it is moving forward. Although I haven't played any of the video games, I'm pretty pumped for adaptation. The cast for the film is shaping up nicely, and I'm sure once I see MACBETH, I'll be even more excited for ASSASSIN'S CREED.

ASSASSIN'S CREED is scheduled to open on December 21, 2016.
