After much praying (and probably a Satanic ritual or two), Marvel fanboys finally got to see their precious Spider-Man officially ushered into the MCU with CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. And, to the film's credit, we probably got a version of the web-crawler that was the closest we've had to his comic-book brethren (for better and for worse, because I f*cking hate mechanical web-shooters. But that's a discussion for another day).
Either way, we're here to talk about the film's primary villain, Vulture, played by former-Batman Michael Keaton. And in an interview with Variety – while promoting his new Oscar-bait film THE FOUNDER – Keaton let loose a few tidbits about the character:
[With] Vulture…not to give too much away…he’s a really interesting — and more interesting than I thought — villain because there’s parts of him that you go, “You know what? I might see his point.” Really, really. It makes it interesting to play.
When asked if there was any trepidation about returning to the superhero genre, after his aforementioned role as Batman in the original Burton films, he had this to say:
No, I mean, not at all. It’s just a thing. A gig. I don’t mean it’s just a gig, it’s the next job. And you think you can do it or want to do it and in fact I said no, because I couldn’t, it didn’t work in my schedule. Then I’m glad to say, they kind of shifted the scheduling and it worked out. So it fit in and I’m glad I did it.
So, there you have it. Vulture will be interesting, Keaton has no problem with superhero roles, and Spider-Man will still have mechanical web-shooters. I mean, seriously, where does he find the money for the materials? I can maybe believe he made the shooters out of junk parts, but what about the webbing itself? Even if his spider powers lets him now how to build it, you think Peter can manufacture web that holds cars suspended with things he found in a dumpster or at Wal-Mart?! An —
Anyway, SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING will swing into theaters July 7th, 2017.
