Zack Snyder’s new Superman film MAN OF STEEL (as it’s now officially called) has found its General Zod! Warner Bros. today announced that the great Michael Shannon (“Boardwalk Empire”, REVOLUTIONARY ROAD) has landed the role.
Here’s Snyder on the casting announcement: “Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.”
Malice is certainly something that Shannon can effortlessly exude, so I’m with Snyder on that one. It’s also the kind of part that could potentially launch the actor’s career into a whole new level. Which, of course, would be terrific as he is one of the most underrated presences working in film/television today.
So, you dig the choice?
