One of the movies that I must see before I even attempt a “Best of 2011” list is Jeff Nichols’ TAKE SHELTER, a film that garnered tons of rave reviews thanks to its creepy storyline and the lead performances from Michael Shannon and newest “it girl” Jessica Chastain. While my chance at seeing the film in the theater has most likely passed, I’ll definitely get to hit it up when it comes home to DVD on FEBRUARY 14th (no pre-order link available yet). Just be warned: it’s maybe not prime Valentine’s Day viewing material.

The synopsis for TAKE SHELTER: Curtis LaForche lives in a small town in Ohio with his wife, Samantha, and daughter, Hannah, a six-year-old deaf girl. When Curtis begins to have terrifying dreams, he keeps the visions to himself, channeling his anxiety into obsessively building a storm shelter in his backyard. His seemingly inexplicable behavior concerns and confounds those closest to him, but the resulting strain on his marriage and tension within his community can’t compare with Curtis’s privately held fear of what his dreams may truly signify.
