The return of Dr. Evil

Verizon dropped a new ad yesterday titled Menace Mobile, which saw the return of Dr. Evil. Mike Myers recently returned to the character, just as he did for a series of Super Bowl ads a few years ago, along with Rob Lowe as Number 2, Seth Green as Scott Evil and Mindy Sterling as Frau Farbissina. That cast reunites for this Verizon spot and they all look like they haven’t aged a day, except Green no longer passes for a teenager. Jay Roach, the director of the Austin Powers films, also sat back in the director’s chair to helm this extended commercial. You can check the spot in the embed above.

Austin Powers 4?

With the new Verizon ad acting like an added epilogue to the Austin Powers series and the cast still looking like they’re having a blast in their roles, it would no doubt entice fans of the comedies to wonder if a fourth movie is still on the table. According to Deadline, Mike Myers has an answer for you. Myers recently sat down with Trevor Noah for his show, Trevor Noah’s World Cup Watch Party, and a fan asked Myers if there will be another Austin Powers movie. Myers would respond with a firm, “Yes.” However, he did not elaborate further on that answer.

It has been a long-standing question as to whether or not Goldmember was a definitive ending to the series and there had been times where it looked like we would be getting a new sequel. Myers will also return to a beloved character in Shrek 5, so maybe the SNL alumnus is ready to commit to becoming the International Man of Mystery once again.

The Austin Powers series

Austin Powers is one of those rare successes where the film initially flopped at the box office, but it became a huge hit on home video. The sales for the first film’s video releases skyrocketed so much that New Line dropped a sequel, The Spy Who Shagged Me, not long after one of the most anticipated follow-ups of all time, Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, and had actually overtaken it at the box office. Myers would follow that film up with Goldmember and the series had grossed over $676 million at the global box office.
