Misanthrope: Ben Mendelsohn joins Shailene Woodley in serial killer thriller

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Over a year and a half has passed since we shared the news that Shailene Woodley would be starring in director Damian Szifron's serial killer thriller Misanthrope, and we haven't heard anything about the project since then. Until now. It has been announced that Woodley is being joined in the cast by Ben Mendelsohn, and filming is expected to start in two weeks.

Mendelsohn's screen acting career is nearing 40 years and 100 credits. He's probably best known for his roles in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Captain Marvel, and the TV shows Bloodline and The Outsider.

Scripted by Szifron and Jonathan Wakeham, Misanthrope finds Woodley taking on the role of

a talented but troubled cop who is recruited by the FBI to help profile and track down a murderer.

Woodley is also producing the film with Aaron Ryder and Stuart Manashil.

When Misanthrope was first announced, people involved with the project said it "will have a profound impact on cinema" and be a "decade defining film". I look forward to seeing what will make this serial killer thriller so special.
