Late last year, Apple TV ordered a Monarch: Legacy of Monsters prequel series starring Wyatt Russell. He will reprise his role as Colonel Lee Shaw, the younger version of the character played by his real-life father, Kurt Russell. Now, Deadline reports that Millie Brady (The Last Kingdom) and Pilou Asbæk (Foundation) have joined the cast of the new Monarch prequel.

Monarch Prequel Series

The pilot of the Monarch prequel series will be directed by JD Dillard (Devotion). The show will “follow the story of Colonel Lee Shaw (Russell), an American operative who, in 1984, went on a secret mission behind enemy lines in an attempt to stop the Soviets from unleashing a horrific new Titan big enough to destroy the U.S. and turn the tide of the Cold War.

It’s not known who Brady and Asbæk will play.

Joby Harold is set to serve as the showrunner of the prequel series. However, he has also secured a new overall deal with Legendary, which will see him oversee the entire Monsterverse franchise for Apple, which will feature “both new and fan-favorite Titans.

Earlier this year, Russell teased that audiences don’t know what’s in store for them.“You’ve got absolutely no f*cking clue what to expect,” he said. “I think people are going to expect one thing and be like, ‘Holy shit, this is not what I expected.’ It’ll go deeper into Lee’s experience after he came up, and being sort of put on ice, in 1982, and then what happens after that, and why he’s needed and the mission he goes on.

Monsterverse

The second season of Monarch debuted on Apple TV in February, but the franchise is set to return to the big screen with Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.

Grant Sputore (I Am Mother) directs the new installment, taking over from Adam Wingard, who previously directed Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. There have been rumblings that Space Godzilla could be making an appearance.

The sequel stars Kaitlyn Dever, Dan Stevens, Jack O’Connell, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Delroy Lindo, Matthew Modine, and Sam Neill. It’s slated to be released on March 26, 2027.
