Monster Hunter on track for September, Resident Evil series on hold

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Earlier this year, we learned that Constantin Film and Netflix were working together to develop a series based on the Resident Evil video game property, and there was even some talk that the show could go into production as early as June. Of course, that's not the case now. Speaking with Deadline, Constantin boss Martin Moszkowicz confirmed that Resident Evil is one of around thirty shows they had in the works that had to be shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It will be a while before Resident Evil can start back up, but another Constantin video game adaptation is still on track to meet its original release date. Paul W.S. Anderson, who masterminded the six RESIDENT EVIL feature films, has directed a cinematic twist on the video game MONSTER HUNTER, and Moszkowicz provided this status update on the project:

MONSTER HUNTER is still set for a September worldwide release. We are delivering it this week."

The film has the following synopsis:

Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When Lt. Artemis and her loyal soldiers are transported from our world to the new world, the unflappable lieutenant receives the shock of her life. In her desperate battle for survival against enormous enemies with incredible powers and unstoppable, revolting attacks, Artemis will team up with a mysterious man who has found a way to fight back.

Milla Jovovich, Tony Jaa, Tip "T.I." Harris, Ron Perlman, Diego Boneta, Josh Helman, and Meagan Good star.

MONSTER HUNTER is set to reach theatres on September 4th.
