There is only one Friday the 13th in 2022, and according to Deadline Screen Media has decided that it will make the perfect North American release date for I Know Who Killed Me (watch it HERE) director Chris Sivertson’s supernatural thriller / creature feature Monstrous, starring Christina Ricci (Yellowjackets). On Friday, May 13th, Screen Media will be giving Monstrous a theatrical and VOD release.

Monstrous was written by Carol Chrest (The Prophet’s Game) and tells the following story:

Laura (Ricci), traumatized by an abusive relationship, finally runs away from her former husband with her seven-year-old son Cody. But in their new, idyllic and remote sanctuary, they find they have another, bigger and more terrifying monster to deal with… one that will test both their mental health issues to the limit.

Sivertson said,

Carol Chrest created an iconic genre character who Christina Ricci brings to life in a mesmerizing and deeply emotional performance.”

Also in the cast are Colleen Camp (Die Hard with a Vengeance). According to the IMDb page, Santino Barnard (Penny Dreadful: City of Angels), Don Baldaramos (Suburbicon), Lew Temple (The Devil’s Rejects), and Carol Anne Watts (Obsessed with the Babysitter) are in the line-up as well.

Screen Media also holds the distribution rights to the film outside the U.K., Japan, and the Middle East, while High Octane has acquired the rights in the Middle East, North Africa, and Japan.

Screen Media provided the following statement:

The glossy, twist-filled Monstrous is exactly the kind of unforgettable thriller we’re eager to release. The film is all the more special thanks to the iconic charm of Christina Ricci in a complex lead performance.”

Monstrous is produced by Robert Yocum, Sasha Yelaun, B.I. Rosen, and Johnny Remo, while Sivertson serves as executive producer alongside Adam Goldworm, Omer Paracha, Sean Reilly, Clay Epstein, Craig Albrecht, Carol Anne Watts, Adam Sigal, Galen Christy, and Mark Silba.
