Morbius 2: Jared Leto says “never say never” about returning for sequel

Morbius wound up being exactly the movie we all feared it would be, but that didn’t stop fans from having a little fun. Thanks to viral tweets and memes proclaiming it to be the “highest-grossing Morbius movie of all time,” Sony Pictures actually re-released Morbius in theaters in an attempt to capitalize on the attention. It did not go well. The film was re-released in more than 1000 theaters across America earlier this month but only managed to gross an average of $289 per theater. After just a couple of days, Sony pulled Morbius from theaters… again. Not the best performance from the Living Vampire, but Jared Leto isn’t ruling out Morbius 2.

While speaking with The Playlist, Jared Leto was asked what the chances of his playing Morbius (or the Joker) again are.

Well, as the old thing goes, never say never.

Maybe fans will live to Morb again after all. Jared Leto even got in on the joke earlier this month by teasing a script for the sequel.

As Morbius is currently sitting at just $163.8 million worldwide, I’d say the chances of Sony Pictures moving forward with Morbius 2 are a little slim. Memes can’t do everything. That being said, Sony has been developing their own Marvel Universe encompassing Venom, Kraven the Hunter, Madam Web, and more, so even if Morbius 2 doesn’t come to fruition, it’s still possible that we could see Jared Leto play the character in someone else’s movie.

The first movie followed Biochemist Michael Morbius as he tried to cure himself of a rare blood disease but inadvertently infected himself with a form of vampirism that gave him incredible powers and a thirst for blood. The film received mostly scathing reviews upon release, although our own Chris Bumbray found a few things to like about it in his review. Perhaps Morbius will find a new life on home-media as it was released on Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD today.

Would you like to see Jared Leto return for Morbius 2 or has the blood run dry?
