So it looks like we’ve finally got some more updates for you all regarding one of Johnny Depp’s passion projects: DARK SHADOWS. It’s no secret that Depp is a big fan of the 1960’s soap opera and is looking to remake it as soon as possible. Depp is even producing through his Infinitum-Nihil shingle. Things are finally starting to pick up according to MTV.
MTV recently got a chance to talk to Infinitum’s director of development Sam Sarkar about the project and he updated us all on a few things. In regards to whether Depp is still set to star: “Indeed he is.” As for Tim Burton directing? “I can neither confirm nor deny that. But I know it’s out there in the ether.” Wow this guy is a real blabber mouth huh?
Sarkar adds: “All I can say is that one is very active. The studio will be making some announcements regarding it pretty soon. Very soon, probably. … Obviously, it’s a movie that can continue, because there were so many things going on in ‘Dark Shadows.'” To read up on some more of what Sarkar had to say to MTV, including bits about whether series creator Dan Curtis would be happy with this remake, head right over HERE.
Now according to the people over at Deadline Hollywood Daily, Burton is very much involved with DARK SHADOWS and may be the reason the initial start date gets pushed back! The site reports: First, any rumor that Burton may bail altogether is “definitely” not true, says my insider: “He loves the project”. I’m told the postponement hasn’t yet been presented to Warner Bros. Another of my sources says the studio has already reserved stages. “It is our intention to still start the movie in the fall. We’re trying to work it out,” a Depp insider explains to me. “And Tim Burton is Johnny’s first and only choice to direct.” They claim Burton signed on last June.
Hmm. I think I’ll believe the guy who actually works for Infinitum-Nihil, no? Though I’d bet my left nut Burton directs this bad boy. Even though it’s hard to come by we’ll be keeping you updated on any and all DARK SHADOWS news as we hear it!
