Yesterday, we told you about yet another EVIL DEAD DVD that Anchor Bay was working on. This new DVD (which currently has no release date, artwork or detailed info if you’re wondering) will be sporting a new transfer of the film (which makes no sense if you read yesterday’s post) and a miniature sculpted by Tom Sullivan of the cabin Ash and crew stayed in. As well, there was word of Peter Jackson (of BAD TASTE fame) doing a tribute doc of sorts for the DVD as well.
Well today, the boys at Dread Central got ahold of some more info on the DVD. Frank Woodward, the former location manager and current producer of the ‘Working with a Master’ segments for the MASTERS OF HORROR DVDs that the Bay is producing, told Johnny Butane that when he was asked to contribute to the Showtime TV series, he was actually doing interviews for the new EVIL DEAD DVD, which he referred to as THE EVIL DEAD: 25th Anniversary Edition. The interviews in question (which are to be included in a featurette for the DVD) were of well-known figures in the horror industry, whose careers were influenced by Sam Raimi’s classic.
Whether this is the tribute featurette involving Jackson isn’t clear, but having this featurette, a massive retrospective documentary, the original short WITHIN THE WOODS and the extras brought over from previous EVIL DEAD DVDs would warrant another purchase in my book. But that’s a big ‘if’, since Anchor Bay could take the lazy route and slap on a 10-minute doc of celebs talking about the film, but that’d be stupid of Anchor Bay. Hopefully we get more on this release in the coming months.
