Anyone else confused as to why this HUNGER GAMES adaptation is such a big deal? I mean… Are the books really that popular? Either way I’ve never heard of them until this movie talk and frankly… it’s still not really catching my attention.
But alas I suppose there is an audience out there for this thing so we’re going to keep rolling with it! With that being said let me tell you all about the latest update on the film, coming at us from The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog. Apparently the casting for this little diddy is really heating up with Lionsgate bringing in several actors to test for a couple of the key roles in the film.
Interviewing for the role of ‘Peeta’ is Josh Hutcherson, Alexander Ludwig, Hunter Parrish, Lucas Till and Evan Peters while Liam Hemsworth, David Henrie, Robbie Amell and Drew Roy are all eyeing the role of ‘Gale.’ Yeah.. I only recognize two of those names: Josh Hutcherson and Hunter Parrish. Considering I can’t stand Hutcherson I’m going to go ahead and put my money on Parrish (above). What says you guys? You hoping for anyone in particular to score the gig or could you care less? Care less huh. I don’t blame you.
The story is set in a future America which is divided into 12 poor districts that serve a wealthy Capitol territory. Once a year, each district submits a girl and boy as tributes to participate in life-or-death games. Sixteen-year old Katniss is the girl who volunteers to take the place of her sister; Peeta is a boy from Katniss’ town also selected for the games who, during the opening ceremony, reveals his unrequited love for her. Katniss spends the rest of the story unsure whether the move was a survival ploy or a true act. The Gale character teaches Katniss the way of the hunter and plays a bigger role in the subsequent trilogy.
Gary Ross is directing HUNGER GAMES with the gorgeous Jennifer Lawrence (below) already tapped to play the lead role of ‘Katniss Everdeen.’ I’m guessing word on who’ll be playing ‘Peeta’ and ‘Gale’ will be dropping any day so check back soon for that!
