You guys remember that awesome MORTAL KOMBAT: REBIRTH trailer that was making the rounds last Summer? It was a dark and gritty look at the MORTAL KOMBAT world from the mind of director Kevin Tancharoen. At the time fans were in an uproar trying to get Tancharoen a job to make a feature version of his impressive trailer… Well folks it seems things are really shaping up that way!!
According to the guys over at Bloody-Disgusting Warner Premiere’s are opting for a 10-episode MORTAL KOMBAT web series directed by Kevin Tancharoen rather than a reboot. Apparently the plan is to put together a feature film once the web series has run it’s course. Penned by Tancharoen, Todd Helbing, and Aaron Helbing, the miniseries will star Michael Jai White (above) as ‘Major Jackson ‘Jax’ Briggs.’ Unfortunately it’s unknown whether other cast from the trailer, like the gorgeous Jeri Ryan (below), will be returning as well.
We do know that this 10 episode web series will also have the characters Shang Tsung, Liu Kang, Sub Zero, Durak, Shao Kahn, Kabal, Kitana/Mileena and Scorpion. The early synopsis for the series reads: A few Earthlings will fight to save the planet from Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung, two Gods ruling over parallel universes. Simple enough.
