Bill Moseley (whose ass-ripping performance as Otis B. Driftwood (right) in THE DEVIL’S REJECTS will be forever carved into my brain) is anxious about his forthcoming flick, REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA (mostly in a good way). He spoke recently to Fango about the highly anticipated horror/musical from Lionsgate and SAW sequels director Darren Lynn Bousman at the Monster Mania convention held in good ol’ Jersey! Here’s what the man had to say:
“It is fantastic, it is different, it is really cool. But that different part might be creating some difficulty in figuring out how to market it. It’s an opera, so there’s barely a spoken word in it. It has comic-book panels which introduce certain segments and plot points, but it is all song. I just have a feeling that that’s going to make it difficult to sell; as we all know. Hollywood hates innovation until it makes money. And then it becomes a benchmark. I think it’s a great movie, but I believe it’s going to be an uphill fight to get it out in wide release, and right now I’m just doing whatever I can to publicize and put it out there.”
To further fan the flames of Mr. Moseley’s uphill fight, Lionsgate has not, as of now, settled on a release date for the movie. Let’s go people! Get the lead out of your asses! I mean, if Tim Burton’s SWEENEY TODD can attest to anything, it’s that horror and song DO actually mix! Mr. Moseley hopes that us, his fellow genre freaks, will help get the movie out to the multiplexes.
“It may be something as simple as writing Lionsgate and saying, ‘We want our REPO!’,” he noted. “I don’t know if there’s an official site or MySpace page yet, but you can go to Darren Lynn Bousman’s page [http://www.myspace.com/dlbmovies here] and that will keep you updated.”
In REPO!, Moseley plays Luigi, one of “three evil offspring” of Rotti Largo, played by Paul Sorvino, who runs GeneCo, which creates designer organs for people needing replacement parts. He even performs “four or five” musical numbers! Who DOESN’T want to see that?!
