The Horror Collective, the genre label of Shaked Berenson’s company Entertainment Squad, has picked up the United States distribution rights to Motherly, a home invasion thriller directed by Craig David Wallace, co-creator of the horror comedy television series Todd and the Book of Pure Evil. Wallace also wrote the screenplay with Ian Malone, who was a writer on Todd and the Book of Pure Evil. The Horror Collective is planning to release the film in the U.S. on November 16th.

Motherly centers on

a single mother who is attacked by a vengeful couple who believe she’s responsible for their daughter’s murder.

That set-up brings to mind the French horror film Inside, but with some of the elements tweaked.

Motherly stars Lora Burke (Poor Agnes), Tessa Kozma (A Christmas Carousel), Kristen MacCulloch (Psycho Goreman), and Nick Smyth (Video on Trial).

Wallace had this to say about the project:

I have always been fascinated by the terrible things people are capable of doing to others – but also the length to which people will go to protect and avenge their loved ones.”

Produced by Avi Federgreen, Lucky Dime Films’ Laura Tremblay, and Raven Banner Entertainment, Motherly is set to make its world premiere at Fright Fest London later this month. Raven Banner will be presenting the project to potential international distributors at the American Film Market.

I have been meaning to get around to watching Todd and the Book of Pure Evil for years now (mainly because Jason Mewes is in the cast), but still haven’t gotten to it. I’m going to one of these days – and I’m going to be watching Motherly when it’s released in November, because I’m a sucker for home invasion thrillers. If a movie is described in that way, chances are I’m going to be sitting through it at some point.
