Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

If you'd prefer not to know the identity of one of the original characters who will be returning for PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES, then consider the following to be a spoiler. If you're still with us, scroll on down!

We already know that Orlando Bloom's Will Turner will be back for DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES after his absence in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES, but a new international trailer seems to reveal that Keira Knightley's Elizabeth Swann will be returning as well. Knightley seemed to have put the franchise behind her several years ago when she told Digital Spy that it "was an amazing point in my life, but it was a good five-year chunk. It was incredible, but I can't really imagine going back to it." It's not known how big of a role Keira Knightley will have in DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES, but my money is on a post-credit sequence which will set up the sixth installment of the franchise.

My excitement for the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN franchise waned significantly after the last film, but the early reactions from the surprise screening of DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES at CinemaCon have been mostly positive, with many calling the film a return to form as well as a surprisingly fun time. That's really all I ask for these movies, and if Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom are being set up for a larger return in the sixth film, it'd be a welcome reunion and perhaps a perfect moment to bring Captain Jack's (Johnny Depp) adventures to an end.

The official synopsis for PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES:

The rip-roaring adventure finds down-on-his-luck Captain Jack feeling the winds of ill-fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazar, escape from the Devil’s Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea—notably Jack. Jack’s only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina Smyth, a brilliant and beautiful astronomer, and Henry, a headstrong young sailor in the Royal Navy. At the helm of the Dying Gull, his pitifully small and shabby ship, Captain Jack seeks not only to reverse his recent spate of ill fortune, but to save his very life from the most formidable and malicious foe he has ever faced.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES is set for a May 26, 2017 release.
