A Quiet Place II Superbowl spot and featurette offers up new scares

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Besides being a huge fan of cinema I'm also a die-hard football enthusiast. As a long suffering Buffalo Bills fan, my childhood is full of beautiful memories of my beloved Bills' playoff triumphs. It's also replete with Superbowl nightmares. Despite watching my NFL team failing four straight times to win the Superbowl, my disappointment was somewhat mitigated by the vast array of resplendent Superbowl ads. When Superbowl commercials began to prominently feature upcoming blockbusters I was even more thrilled. In particular I remember the TV spot for INDEPENDENCE DAY during Superbowl XXX.

A trend that began sporadically in the 1990s exploded in the 21st century. At last year's Superbowl alone there were no less than eight ads for upcoming films. That trend will likely continue for Superbowl LIV. A movie that's no doubt high on many a person's list of most anticipated 2020 films is A QUIET PLACE PART II. The John Krasinski directed feature is a follow-up to the 2018 smash hit and Paramount Pictures just released a new Superbowl spot and featurette. Check it out:

What I really loved about the original was that it was an exploration of parenthood. Specifically A QUIET PLACE delved into how parents (myself included) do our utmost to protect our children from the dangers of the world, despite knowing the inevitable. This looks to be a further exploration of that as the Abbott family are quite literally stepping out of the comfort of their home and venturing into the unknown. Whereas the first film highlighted the alien creatures (and make no mistake there's more of the same here) it looks to examine the human monsters that result in a post apocalyptic landscape. I for one am psyched for this sucker. March can't come quick enough.

A QUIET PLACE PART II starring Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, Cillian Murphy, and Djimon Hounsou screams its way into cinemas March 20, 2020.
