Actress-singer Zendaya signs on for the Spider-Man reboot

Given that we’re a little over a year way from Sony and Marvel’s SPIDER-MAN reboot, they’re beginning to round out their cast of lead characters. The next name to join Tom Holland and Marisa Tomei is . . . Zendaya. If you’re old like me, the name might be unfamiliar, but she’s a singer/actress who previously played the role of Rocky Blue in Disney Channel’s Shake It Up, and also was in the 16th seasons of Dancing with the Stars. As Deadline reports, she’ll be playing the role of Michelle alongside Tom Holland. Whether Michelle is just a high school friend or something more, we’ll have to wait and see.

Despite the popularity of the first two Raimi films, I’ve yet to watch a SPIDER-MAN flick that “did it” for me. Given that Marvel proper is getting in on this next one, I have some pretty high hopes. I may not like every movie that Marvel puts out, but they have a great handle on their characters. Taking Spidey back to high school is an interesting move, and even more interesting is how they’re going to introduce him in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. Think Tony Stark will provide our webslinger with his very own specialized suit? We’ll find out in a couple of months!

Sony/Marvel’s SPIDER-MAN is scheduled to hit theaters on July 7, 2017.
