Alice Eve, Rosamund Pike, and Diane Kruger on the shortlist to play the female lead in Superman (and it’s NOT Lois Lane)

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

That’s right, the lead female in director Zack Snyder’s SUPERMAN reboot will not be Lois Lane. Who will it be? We don’t know!

Not yet anyways. According to Variety, the lovely blonde trio of Alice Eve (SHE’S OUT OF YOUR LEAGUE), Rosamund Pike (DIE ANOTHER DAY), and Diane Kruger (INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS) are all on the shortlist to play an undisclosed female lead character. Does that mean that Lane will only be featured in a minimized capacity? Or will we be seeing a similar scenario to that of the untitled SPIDER-MAN reboot that has Gwen Stacey taking over the spotlight from Mary Jane Watson?

Variety adds that though earlier reports had dropped names like Rachel McAdams and Kristen Stewart as potential female leads, sources now tell the trade that Warner Bros. “doesn’t want a name that could overshadow its leading man.” That leading man, of course, is Henry Cavill (“The Tudors”) who was just cast as the Man of Steel this past weekend. Alice Eve and Rosamund Pike fit the bill as names that are recognizable but not overpowering to a relative unknown like Cavill. Diane Kruger, on the other hand, doesn’t make sense to me since she had large roles in both a Quentin Tarantino film (his most successful to boot) and two NATIONAL TREASURE films that were quite successful worldwide. But, I digress.

The last tidbit that Variety puts out is this: “Studio is also currently putting a search out for its villain as well, but no names have been set in stone.”

So who might this new female lead be? Lana Lang? Supergirl? A new character? Superman aficionados, start speculating below!
