An internet rumor turns out to be true? Marion Cotillard is talks for Dark Knight Rises

Rumors started running wild this weekend that Marion Cotillard had joined the cast of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, presumably as Talia al Ghul. But the report came from a Google translation of a French website and that seemed sketchy at best (especially considering how airtight Christopher Nolan and Warner Bros. have kept the casting process). But wouldn’t ya know it? Turns out Marion Cotillard is, in fact, in talks to reteam with Christopher Nolan for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.

The Hollywood Reporter got in touch with Cotillard’s reps who confirmed that she is in “discussions” to join the film but cautioned that nothing is set in stone yet. The biggest obstacle would seem to be the actress’ pregnancy. Her due date is this spring and filming is set to begin on TDKR in the summer. Would she be physically ready for the film (or, perhaps more importantly, mentally ready)?

The role is being described as a “romantic lead” for Bruce Wayne though speculation has frequently turned to Talia al Ghul as the likely candidate for the part. Talia is the daughter of Ras al Ghul, who you saw Batman defeat in BATMAN BEGINS. (Hmm, think she might be a little upset about that?) THR notes that Naomi Watts, Kate Winslet and Rachel Weisz all read for the role in the past weeks.

That looks to be the last major piece of casting for THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, should Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt officially sign on to the film. What do you think of how the cast has shaped up so far?
