Best Movie & TV Trailers of the Week! Avengers, Pet Sematary, Child’s Play

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Cuddle up with your cats, order yourself some Postmates, and grab your laptop — it's time for the best movie and TV trailers of the week!

Unfortunately, the Patriots won the Super Bowl yet again (yawn) but the good news is, the big event brought about a whole world of new trailers, and each one is better than the last. First up, there's a brand new trailer for AVENGERS: ENDGAME which features a very broody albeit clean shaven Steve Rogers uttering the hopeful sentence "Some people move on — not us". Sounds like this might not be the end after all.

There's also four (!!!) new trailers for Guillermo del Toro's SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK, and it looks absolutely incredible. I'm very curious about this one, not only because it's based on a book series that I loved as a kid, but also because the film isn't rated yet, and I'm wondering how dark it's going to get. Is this a movie that was made for children, or for the adults who read the books as children? I can't wait to find out.

The first trailer dropped for the new CHILD'S PLAY reboot, which actually looks pretty decent. As a huge fan of the original film, I was not very pleased when this remake was announced, but there's no denying that director Lars Klevberg (POLAROID) has whipped up a killer cast, including Aubrey Plaza (PARKS AND RECREATION) and Brian Tyree Henry (ATLANTA). I will hold judgment until the movie drops in June, but it's going to be pretty hard to outdo Tom Holland's 1988 cult classic.

Tim Story's SHAFT sees three generations of the family joining up to fight crime, and I have to say it already looks much better than the 2000 entry that Samuel L. Jackson is probably hoping we all forgot. PET SEMATARY is looking better and better with every new peek, and TOY STORY 4 can't get here fast enough. US seems to be hinting that the spot the family has chosen for their vacation may be the reason behind the strange coincidences they're experiencing, and DUMBO is looking so great, it's making me hopeful that Tim Burton is finally back to his old self again. There's also new trailers for CAPTAIN MARVEL, HOBBS AND SHAW, ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, UGLYDOLLS, MY SOUL TO KEEP, and STRAY.

Next up we have TV trailers! This week features new looks at THE HANDMAID'S TALE season 3, an intriguing four part docu-series THE CASE AGAINST ADNAN SYED, and a very odd GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8 endorsement from (checks notes) Bud Light. Check out the whole shebang below!

This week brought forth a whole slew of spectacular trailers. So many, in fact, it's tough choosing just one in particular to brag about. Nonetheless, one must be crowned, and the title goes to Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer's PET SEMATARY. Church looks feral and pissed (I love him), John Lithgow, one of our greatest living actors, is the perfect choice to play the new Jud Crandall, and the inclusion of the creepy WICKER MAN -esque masks is a sold choice. I'm stoked.
