The premise of the Vincenzo Natali (CUBE) sci-fi horror flick, SPLICE sounds like it is destined for the sanctuary of direct-to-DVD, but now that it appears Adrien Brody (THE PIANIST) has signed on to star, the whole project sounds a little more intriguing to me. The film will follow two rebellious young scientists (Brody presumably playing one of them) who defy moral and legal boundaries to conduct a dangerous experiment: splicing together human and animal DNA to create a new organism, called ‘Dren’. The creature starts out as a deformed female infant, but develops into a beautiful yet dangerous winged human-chimera who forges a bond with both creators, only to have the bond turn deadly. Guillermo Del Toro will have a hand in the production of the film.
I’m not exactly sure how you pull off a beautiful winged human-chimera, but hey, if you can? More power to ya!
