David Fincher’s Gone Girl with Ben Affleck adds Tyler Perry, Patrick Fugit, and Kim Dickens

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

David Fincher‘s next film, GONE GIRL, based on the mystery novel by Gillian Flynn, has just stacked the cast deck, but it’s with a very unlikely and surprising batch of actors. Foregoing the typical casting choices that would befit a film of this type, the already cast Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, are being joined by none other than Tyler Perry (ALEX CROSS), Patrick Fugit (ALMOST FAMOUS), Kim Dickens (HOLLOW MAN), Carrie Coon (HBO’s upcoming The Leftovers). In addition, How I Met Your Mother’s Neil Patrick Harris is also in negotiations to join the film, making this one of the most interesting assembled for a mystery thriller.

Here’s the book synopsis:

Just how well can you ever know the person you love? This is the question that Nick Dunne (Affleck) must ask himself on the morning of his fifth wedding anniversary, when his wife Amy suddenly disappears. The police immediately suspect Nick. Amy’s friends reveal that she was afraid of him, that she kept secrets from him. He swears it isn’t true. A police examination of his computer shows strange searches. He says they aren’t his. And then there are the persistent calls on his mobile phone. So what has happened to Nick’s beautiful wife?

Apparently, Fincher was impressed with Perry’s turn in ALEX CROSS that he was courted for the role of the lawyer. Fugit and Dickens will play detectives investigating the case, while Harris would play an ex-boyfriend of the missing wife. Like most folks, I’m a fan of Fincher’s work, and the addition of this cast is making me shake my head up and down with the “impressed
Robert De Niro face.” Sounding better with each new announcement. Now, if they can get Trent Reznor back for the score…

GONE GIRL is set for release sometime in 2015.
