The work of Stephen King has been going through a renaissance in the adaptation department, and you really can’t do a lot of his material justice without pushing towards that R-rating from the MPAA. Luckily, the upcoming DOCTOR SLEEP will check off all the required boxes to ensure a proper mind-fuck, and director Mike Flanagan (HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE) has confirmed that his movie has been given that restricted stamp of approval.

Flanagan took to Twitter to reveal exactly what SLEEP got the rating for, writing, “DOCTOR SLEEP has officially been rated R by the MPAA for ‘disturbing and violent content, some bloody images, language, nudity, and drug use.’ Sounds about right…”

A sequel to one of the most iconic of King’s works – THE SHINING – DOCTOR SLEEP stars Ewan McGregor as a now-grown Danny Torrance, who is coming to terms with psychic abilities and struggling with the memories of what he experienced at that mountain hotel all those years ago. The first trailer for the movie dropped a few months ago, receiving rave reception and getting people all sorts of excited for this horror sequel.

The movie also stars Rebecca FergusonCliff Curtis, Kyliegh Curran, Carl Lumbly, Bruce Greenwood, and Jacob Tremblay and is in theaters November 8.
