Edgar Wright’s The World’s End officially begins production with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost

Rejoice! Edgar Wright’s third film in the Blood and Ice Cream trilogy, THE WORLD’S END, has officially begun production.  Along with the press release, we also have some set pics of with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, Edgar Wright, and a gang of actors portraying the younger versions of the main stars.

From the press release:

Working Title Films and Big Talk Productions have commenced filming on The World’s End, the third installment of Edgar Wright’s trilogy of comedies, following the successes Shaun of the Dead (2004) and Hot Fuzz (2007).  The new movie is filming in the U.K. As with the first two movies in the trilogy, Universal Pictures International (UPI) will distribute The World’s End internationally and Focus Features will distribute it in North America.

Anyone who’s seen SHAUN OF THE DEAD and/or HOT FUZZ knows how significant this is, due largely to sheer entertainment value.  Hilarious, fun, and quite rousing at times, this crew of creatives bring their A-game when working together and I, for one, cannot wait to see this bad boy on the big screen.  While many folks would rather see Wright working on Marvel’s ANT-MAN, I think there’s more than enough time for him to crank out the final piece of this trilogy.  The film also stars Rosamund Pike, Bilbo Baggins Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine, and Eddie Marsan.

Here’s the synopsis:

In The World’s End, 20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hellbent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King (Simon Pegg), a 40-year-old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub – The World’s End.  As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

THE WORLD’S END is slated for release on August 14, 2013 with a U.S. release date yet to be announced.

Whoa…did they say Rosamund Pike? Yusssss….
